Chances are, you see a trustmark every single day. And if you’re on a website you’re not familiar with, there’s an even better chance they’ve made you feel safer, more secure.
But how much do you know about them—the way they work, and what they do beyond reassuring web users? Don’t feel bad if you don’t know. Most people don’t, and what they think they know is often wrong.
That’s why we made this blog: to clear up the most common misconceptions people have about the McAfee SECURE trustmark.
Misconception #1: It’ll slow down your page load time
This one is a big fear for website owners—with good reason. Every second of delay in page load can cause a 7% reduction in your conversion rate, and results in a 16% decrease in customer satisfaction.
But the McAfee SECURE trustmark loads asynchronously, meaning it doesn’t slow down your load time. Your conversion rate and customer satisfaction won’t be negatively affected because of time waiting—in fact, due to the trustmark, they should both improve!
Misconception #2: It’ll hurt your SEO
Because Google cares so much about site speed, your site’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is strongly affected by how quickly your page loads. If you get a trustmark, your Google page rank will suffer, and you’ll lose business.
As we’ve seen above, the McAfee SECURE trustmark doesn’t load that way. Because it’s hosted externally (i.e. not on your site), Google won’t ding your page rank because of the trustmark—at all.
Misconception #3: It doesn’t work on mobile
Some business owners worry that trustmarks don’t convert to mobile browsing well, and thus won’t have the same impact on their customers’ conversion rates. And they’re afraid that as mobile becomes dominant in web use, the trustmark won’t do as much for them.
This is simply not true. From the beginning, the McAfee SECURE certification trustmark has been designed with a mobile audience in mind. In one survey, 76% of respondents said the presence of a trustmark would increase their confidence when shopping on a mobile site.
Further, the McAfee SECURE trustmark is responsive to any device, so whether your web users are on a smartphone, a tablet, or a laptop, the trustmark will always look great.
